Mission
The astounding sensitivity and specificity of molecular detection of RNA and DNA has been transforming our ability to rapidly detect pathogens and diseases, to identify in the biosphere macro-and micro-fauna that evade easy detection, to detect invasive species before they become a huge problem, and to facilitate numerous other applications being conceived in universities, clinics and companies.Tamarack was founded to expand and enhance these capabilities, focused especially on taking detection out of the lab and into settings where it can make the greatest difference.This requires integration of novel instrumentation with constantly improving consumable reagents to provide robust, portable and cost-effective solutions to emerging needs.
Leadership
Founder Thomas Schoenfeld, President and CEO
Tom is passionate about applying advances in DNA and RNA detection and analysis to address ongoing and emerging global challenges like pandemics, invasive species, environmental changes and emerging diseases. He founded and leads Tamarack Bioscience as President and CEO to address these needs. He previously co-founded Lucigen (acquired by LGC) where he served as Vice President - Translational Research. He led the enzyme development at QIAGEN - Beverly and held research positions at Epicentre (acquired by Illumina) and Promega. He recognizes that the key to improving diagnostics and therapeutics often lies in the enzymes and other proteins and shortening the process of engineering and delivering new proteins is critical to shortening development timelines. His efforts at improving the science behind the enzyme discovery and engineering process by incorporating metagenomics, informatics and assay and applications development are documented in over two dozen peer-reviewed publications and numerous patents. Partnering with key instrument developers to provide fully-integrated solutions will bring these improvements to the clinics, homes, screening facilities and field settings where they can have the biggest impact.
